This Porsche 9146 wants to pick a fight with your 911

While your average 911 owner is unlikely to be concerned by a standard 914 in a race, this bulging-arched 1971 Porsche 914/6 might be. This is due to the fact that it is one of only 23 factory-produced cars with the M471 special equipment package, effectively turning it into a street version of the 914/6 GT race car. Wide steel fender flares, a steel flared front valance, 21-millimeter wheel spacers, flared fiberglass rocker panels, and 6×15 Fuchs alloy wheels were among the modifications made to M471-equipped vehicles. As you can see, the end result is possibly the most aggressive 914/6 we’ve seen, particularly with its eye-catching Tangerine paint.

However, those were not the only changes made to this 914/6. This car was upgraded at Werks 1 near the beginning of its life with many of the parts featured on the 914/6 GT conversion kit. Additional roof bracing, Koni front struts, 911 S brakes, and a staggered set of wider, GT-specific 15-inch Fuchs alloys were all part of the package. This 914/6 literally earned its stripes at this point, which only add to the car’s road presence. After being pumped up on performance upgrades, this 914/6 was tasked with laps around the Nordschliefe as a camera car for the 1973 914 2.0 commercial.

The fact that Erich Strenger, the first art director for Porsche’s official magazine, Christophorus, owned this particular 914/6 for a decade and a half adds to its rarity. Strenger clearly adored this car, documenting many of his trips across continental Europe in Christophorus and even remarking that many inquiries to purchase his beloved 914/6 were turned down due to his asking price of one million dollars. This drool-worthy 914/6 was fully restored in 2008 and will go under the hammer on March 5th at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 auction. This one, in our opinion, is well worth bidding on.
