Brittany Noschese, 29, from Maryland, wanted to experience a water ʙɪʀᴛʜ in the comfort of her home, and even had a ʙɪʀᴛʜing tub set up in her bedroom – but her son, Nash, couldn’t wait any longer and came when Brittany least expected it. The mother-of-four is hoping her story will help people others realize that they already have the power within themselves when it comes to ɢɪᴠɪɴɢʙɪʀᴛʜ. ʙɪʀᴛʜs do not always go as planned, however each one of them can be a positive and an empowered one. Each ʙɪʀᴛʜ story is unique and sacred.
Noschese said:” With my third child, I decided I wanted to do a home ʙɪʀᴛʜ so my eldest children Jett, then six and Ella, then five, could be there too. It was also supposed to by my first water ʙɪʀᴛʜ, but in my own home environment. We had everything set up in our bedroom, the tarp on the floor, a ʙɪʀᴛʜing tub was set up in the middle of our bedroom. But I never actually sat in it as Nash arrived whilst the water was filling up and I was still on the toilet! I get ɢᴏᴏsᴇʙᴜᴍᴘs by just looking at the pictures – each photo tells a story, and you can feel the emotion. I would love for people to realize that they already have the power within themselves. ʙɪʀᴛʜs do not always go as planned, however each one of them can be a positive and an empowered one.
During the early hours of the morning Brittany woke up with an urge to urinate followed by another urge less than 20 minutes later. But the third time, there was ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ and she immediately knew she was about to ɢɪᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ. She woke her husband Zane, 31, who rang their ʙɪʀᴛʜ photographer, Doula and midwife, who didn’t answer. She added: “I knew it was happening, and that I was going to meet my little one very soon. My body was progressing pretty quick and I couldn’t find a comfortable position on the ʙɪʀᴛʜing ball. The tub wasn’t full enough for me to get in just yet but my ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs had started. I got on my fours: hands and knees for the remaining of the time, but I felt the urge pee so I went to sit on the toilet and ꜰᴇʟᴛ ᴀ sᴜᴅᴅᴇɴ ʜᴜɢᴇ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴏᴛᴛᴏᴍ ᴏꜰ ᴍʏ ʙᴇʟʟʏ.”
Brittany recalls feeling a ‘ʜᴜɢᴇ ᴘᴏᴘ’ as her ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ ʀᴇʟᴇᴀsᴇᴅ and she had no choice but to ɢɪᴠᴇ ʙɪʀᴛʜ on the toilet as the baby was coming. She explained : “I sat back down on the toilet and I sʟᴏᴡʟʏ ꜰᴇʟᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀʙʏ ᴍᴀᴋɪɴɢ ʜɪs ᴡᴀʏ ᴅᴏᴡɴ ɪɴ ᴍʏ ʙᴏᴅʏ. I ᴅɪᴅ ɴᴏᴛ ᴘᴜsʜ – ᴍʏ ʙᴏᴅʏ ᴅɪᴅ – as I told Zane “ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ᴄᴏᴍɪɴɢ!” I was comfortable on the toilet so decided to stay there. The midwife arrived 18 minutes after I gave ʙɪʀᴛʜ and immediately checked Nash’s ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙᴇᴀᴛ and made sure I was ok. We were both healthy and doing just great then I explained what happened and she was very calm and happy for me.Lᴀʙᴏᴜʀɪɴɢ on the toilet is both practical and comfortable. Many midwives encourage women to ʟᴀʙᴏᴜʀ on the toilet because it’s a supported active ʙɪʀᴛʜ position; it opens the hips and gravity can work to ᴇɴᴄᴏᴜʀᴀɢᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʙᴀʙʏ ᴅᴏᴡɴ, ᴘʀᴇssɪɴɢ ᴏɴ ᴀɴᴅ ᴅɪʟᴀᴛɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴇʀᴠɪx.
Mentally, there’s also many benefits to contracting on the toilet, including: The bathroom is a space that encourages hushed tones and privacy. If you feel like you need to escape people and conversations, head to the bathroom. And if you need to focus on a relaxing sound, turn the tap on. Running water is soothing. Your body instinctively regards the toilet as a place to “let go”. It’s where you actively and instinctively release pressure build up in your ʙʟᴀᴅᴅᴇʀ ᴀɴᴅ ʙᴏᴡᴇʟ. I don’t think it’s far-fetched to presume that this same mentality may help you in ʟᴀʙᴏᴜʀ; sitting on the toilet encourages you to sink into the ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ, ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ and eventually, ʙᴇᴀʀ ᴅᴏᴡɴ. ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴ, ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜᴇ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘʀᴇssᴜʀᴇ and eventually, ʙᴇᴀʀ ᴅᴏᴡɴ.
