Overwhelmed by fear and unfamiliarity, Rose bit two people as they attempted to help. The incident resulted in a call to the police and animal control, leading to a 10-day shelter stay for Rose as a precaution.
After the mandated period, instead of returning Rose to Lagnese, the kennel staff decided to euthanize her, citing a history of aggressive behavior. Outraged and unwilling to let Rose’s life be cut short unjustly, Lagnese sought legal assistance from Thom Page, a lawyer at the Lexus Project dedicated to defending dogs facing dire sentences.
Lagnese’s unwavering devotion ignited a legal battle that eventually reached federal court. Throughout the legal proceedings, Rose languished in the kennel, deprived of comfort, toys, and medical attention. The visits from her owner provided little solace; all they could share was a metal bowl game.
For four and a half years, Rose remained confined, her confusion deepening as she struggled to comprehend her situation. Her release finally arrived, yet Lagnese had to relinquish ownership. Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Lagnese’s friends, took Rose under their wing. Allen Szykula, a professional dog trainer, was enlisted to rehabilitate Rose.
After immense dedication, Rose’s progress became evident. At seven years old, she gracefully embraced life beyond the kennel. Her interactions with her trainer and shelter personnel were marked by warmth and trust. The transformation was a victory that warmed the hearts of all those who followed her story.
