Every year, we are privileged to witness a collection of birth photos from around the world that not only celebrate the beauty of childbirth but also capture the raw and profound emotions experienced by both mothers and their newborns. These images are a testament to the extraordinary moments when life begins anew. However, in 2020, amidst the challenges posed by a global pandemic, the strength and resilience of mothers shone even brighter.
Jennifer Mason, co-founder of Birth Becomes You, explained, “While we still wanted to honor the births documented during this unique period, it was also vitally important that we hold space for those births that weren’t documented or supported because of the pandemic. Instead of having a ‘competition,’ we’ve put together a collection of images that are unlike any that we’ve ever seen before. This is a year that none of us will ever forget, and regardless of what our stories were, we all went through this pandemic together.”
