In a realm where prenatal fitness often encounters limitations, the story of expectant mother Lizzy Tomber stands out as a testament to defying conventions. Lizzy’s inspiring journey showcases the possibilities of maintaining an active lifestyle even just days before giving birth, particularly through her continued practice of Maitai’s Acroyoga.
Lizzy Tomber refused to let pregnancy hinder her passion for acroyoga, a dynamic blend of acrobatics and yoga rooted in India. This practice involves intricate balance movements where Lizzy and her husband, Josh Young, collaborate to create astonishing poses and moves. Despite the perceived risks by some, Lizzy, with her expanding belly, made a bold choice to keep acroyoga as a part of her daily life.
For those unacquainted with acroyoga, it’s a discipline that seamlessly combines the grace of yoga with the dynamism of acrobatics, featuring elements such as flying and somersaults.
Lizzy approached her obstetrician, seeking approval for practicing acroyoga during pregnancy. To her delight, her doctor supported her decision, understanding that this wasn’t merely exercise but an integral part of her daily routine. Lizzy recalls her doctor’s response: “If you’re comfortable and this is what you do on a daily basis, you shouldn’t stop doing it.” This approval became the green light Lizzy needed to persist in her routine.
Throughout her pregnancy, Lizzy and her globetrotting acroyoga instructor husband temporarily settled in Washington, D.C., to prepare for their baby’s arrival. Remarkably, Lizzy continued her acroyoga practice until just a few days before giving birth.
Now, with her newborn son David, Lizzy wastes no time getting back into acroyoga, even involving her little one in the practice. While David is still a baby, Lizzy is gradually introducing him to acrobatic movements. As Lizzy expressed, “He’s been practicing acrobatics since he was a baby. He can support his own neck, so we’re not in a hurry to teach him, but hopefully, he will grow up to be a child who enjoys acrobatics.”
Lizzy’s story serves as a powerful testament to the notion that, with proper consultation and guidance, expectant mothers can maintain their active passions and challenge norms while ensuring a healthy pregnancy.
