Born to Hoang Thi Nhat and her husband in Chao Ha 1 village, Nghia Loi commune, Yen Bai, the couple welcomed their first son, Lo Bao Troi, in 2011 with dreams of a healthy and joyful life. However, their world took an unexpected turn when they discovered that their son had a congenital melanoma, causing a deformity in his face.
The journey was not easy for the young family, as they faced the uncertainty of their son’s future. Mrs. Nhat’s voice trembled as she described the hurtful comments and negative remarks their son endured from strangers who referred to him as having a “monkey face” or being a “forest man.” These comments, based on stereotypes and misconceptions, added to the family’s anguish.
In the face of adversity, Mrs. Nhat and her husband chose resilience. They stood together to protect and nurture their child, ensuring he would not feel self-deprecating or ashamed of his appearance.
