Tragically, these areas also witness around 20 human fatalities resulting from elephant-related incidents each year. Additionally, the region experiences the loss of 10 to 15 elephants due to road accidents and poaching.
Government statistics expose a grim reality – wild elephants pose a more significant threat to human lives than predators like tigers, leopards, or lions. Over the course of a year leading up to 2015, conflicts between humans and animals across India claimed the lives of 391 individuals, with elephants accounting for a substantial portion of these casualties.
