The Story of an Orphan Cow Adopted by a Dog Family
Once upon a time, there was an orphan cow that was adopted by a dog family from a very young age. The cow, named Buddy, lived a long life and grew up thinking of itself as a dog.
Buddy was taken in by Coral and Wayne Algie when it was only one day old. Raised alongside the family’s dogs, this adorable cow became part of their pack. Over time, Buddy started to see itself as a dog and displayed many dog-like behaviors. Whenever it was excited, it would wag its tail just like a domesticated animal. It is worth mentioning that Buddy’s mother tragically passed away after getting trapped in a dam near the Algie couple’s farm in New South Wales, Australia.
The couple brought Buddy into their home with their dogs when their mother dog, Bada, had just given birth to a litter of 11 puppies. Currently, Buddy is six weeks old and exhibits many dog-like behaviors. It plays catch with its siblings, wags its tail, and cuddles up with them while sleeping.
Coral shared, “Bada truly considered Buddy her 12th puppy, and even Buddy didn’t know it was a cow. I thought it was much more like a dog. Buddy loves playing with both humans and dogs, and the care that Bada provides to this orphaned calf is so wonderful. Bada is often beside Buddy.”
Wayne and Coral discovered Buddy after attempting to rescue its mother from the adjacent dam. Coral mentioned that when the cow escaped, it was exhausted and unfortunately passed away shortly after.
Since being adopted by the couple, Buddy has quickly adapted to life on the farm. The cow often plays with the family’s children, Bella and Lawson. “Buddy is very affectionate; it often chases and rides bicycles with the children,” said Coral.
Despite being a part of the dog family, it is undeniable that Buddy is a cow. As a result, its body continues to grow larger, and naturally, it has to sleep on the porch. Buddy consumes 10 and a half liters of fresh milk every day, and when fully grown, it can weigh up to 600 kg. However, the Algie couple stated that they will still consider it a pet in the house, no matter how “oversized” Buddy becomes.
