A heartwarming tale unfolded when a Dachshund named Razor displayed remarkable courage and came to the rescue of a St. Bernard named Jazzy, who had become trapped in a cold, muddy ditch for approximately 18 hours. Jazzy had managed to escape from Tim Chavez’s home in New Mexico on a Sunday afternoon.
On Monday morning, Razor sensed that something was wrong and tried to alert Chavez while he was getting ready for work. However, Chavez initially failed to grasp the urgency of Razor’s behavior. Undeterred, Razor continued his efforts to draw attention to the dire situation. He even barked at a neighbor, but it wasn’t until a passerby noticed Razor’s frantic barking and decided to follow him that Jazzy was discovered.
Chavez recounted the events to KRQE News 13, explaining how Razor led them through fields and along an irrigation ditch to the spot where Jazzy was stuck. Jazzy had sunk at least two feet into the mud, making the rescue operation all the more challenging.
The passerby quickly called for assistance, and eight members from Belen Fire & Rescue promptly arrived at the scene to aid in pulling the large dog out of the ditch. Utilizing backboard straps and a long spine board, they successfully extracted Jazzy, ensuring her safety.
