‘I’ve NEVER seen a baby so big!’ Mother Arizona gave birth to 14 LB. the boy was born by cesarean section – and dressed in baby clothes between the ages of six and nine
In an incredible turn of events, a woman from Phoenix, Arizona, recently gave birth to a baby boy weighing over 14 pounds. Cary and Tim Patonai welcomed their third son, Finnley, on October 4. Finnley’s birth weight of 14 pounds, 1 ounce was nearly double the average weight for newborns.
Cary had an inkling that Finnley would be on the larger side, as her final ultrasound indicated a weight of around 13 pounds. “I gave birth to a giant 14-pound baby – he was so huge that I had to have a C-section, and he immediately fit into clothes meant for a six-to-nine-month-old,” she said.
While the size of Finnley was somewhat expected, it still came as a surprise to the parents and medical professionals. The baby’s weight surpassed the predictions, making him the largest baby delivered by Cary’s doctor in 27 years of practice. Cary expressed how uncomfortable and challenging the pregnancy had been due to Finnley’s size and the excess amniotic fluid.
During her last ultrasound, nurses estimated Finnley’s weight to be around 13 pounds but assumed it might not be entirely accurate. Cary had a scheduled C-section for October 5, but her water broke during a checkup the day before, prompting an expedited delivery. Finnley spent eight days in the NICU after birth, attracting attention from hospital staff who wanted to take pictures with the remarkable baby.
Due to Finnley’s size, the hospital had to make a special order for his diapers, as he already wore size two instead of the usual newborn size. The Patonai family also had to quickly acquire clothes for him in sizes meant for older infants (six to nine months).
Cary expressed her gratitude for Finnley’s health and positive outcome. She described him as a good and sweet baby, emphasizing her appreciation for the favorable outcome of the pregnancy.
Finnley’s older brothers, Devlen (10) and Everett (2), were also delivered via C-section, but their weights were within the expected range at 8.2 and 11.1 pounds, respectively. Finnley’s arrival has made him the heaviest among his siblings.
The Patonai family is now enjoying their time as a new family of five. Cary wants people to hear her story and remember that challenging times are temporary. She believes it’s essential to support one another through difficult experiences and remind each other that they are not alone. Every woman’s journey is different, and it is crucial to provide love, care, and respect to those going through their own trying times.
