Ryan Reynolds Wants to Make ‘The Proposal 2’ with Sandra Bullock

Ryan Reynolds ‘Would Do Anything’ to Make ‘The Proposal 2’ with Sandra Bullock

Fans of the beloved 2009 rom-com The Proposal may have a reason to celebrate as Ryan Reynolds has expressed strong interest in reuniting with Sandra Bullock for a sequel. The original film followed Canadian publishing executive Margaret Tate (Bullock), who convinces her assistant Andrew Paxton (Reynolds) to marry her to avoid deportation. Their arrangement unexpectedly blossoms into real love, making for one of the most cherished romantic comedies of its time.

Now, Reynolds, 48, has hinted that both he and Bullock, 60, would “love” to revisit their characters and explore what happened to Margaret and Andrew after the events of the first movie. Speaking in an interview with Deadline’s video series The Actor’s Side, Reynolds praised Bullock, calling her a singular talent both on and off-screen.

“There is nobody in this business that can compare to Sandra Bullock,” Reynolds said. “She’s universally respected, but also incredibly kind. I would do anything, anything with Sandy.” He also revealed that they still talk often and both have a shared interest in making a sequel happen. “I hope we get the chance to do that.”

While no official confirmation has been made, the enthusiasm from both lead stars could be a promising sign. If The Proposal 2 were to happen, it could explore Margaret and Andrew’s married life, their challenges as a couple, and perhaps a new comedic twist that reignites the magic of the original film.

The Comedy Genre: Underrepresented Yet Highly Valued

Beyond his excitement for a sequel, Reynolds also discussed the state of the comedy genre in Hollywood. He noted that while studios often question why more comedies aren’t made, the reality is that comedy is an underappreciated and technically demanding genre.

“Comedies are hard,” he explained. “They’re underrepresented and under-respected in a lot of ways. Our job is to make hard things look easy, and that’s not always recognized.”

Reynolds went on to praise the art of comedy, highlighting its unique blend of technical precision, drama, and emotional warmth. “There’s so much technicality to it all. And it’s fascinating because it always has to work in concert with drama and emotion.”

What’s Next for Reynolds?

In addition to his hopes for The Proposal 2, Reynolds is also navigating his future as Deadpool following the highly anticipated release of Deadpool & Wolverine. He is currently co-writing a film outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy. While his superhero future remains uncertain, one thing is clear—Reynolds is eager to bring more laughter to audiences, whether through action-packed blockbusters or heartwarming romantic comedies.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if The Proposal 2: For Better or Worse becomes a reality. But with both Reynolds and Bullock onboard, there’s hope that the long-awaited sequel could soon be in the works.
