Rare White Lion Triplets Born in Poland
BORYSEW, Poland (AP) — The owner of a private zoo in central Poland expressed his profound gratitude on Tuesday as he welcomed the birth of three white lion triplets, each receiving tender care from their devoted mother.
Andrzej Pabich, the head of the zoo in Borysew, shared his immense joy, highlighting the rarity of such an occurrence. He mentioned that white lions often face challenges during birth due to potential defects or maternal rejection, making the arrival of triplets particularly exceptional.
The white lion, a majestic color mutation of the Kruger subspecies of African lion, is a captivating sight found in select wildlife reserves in South Africa and zoological facilities worldwide. Pabich noted that the global population of white lions stands at approximately 90 individuals.
Speaking to The Associated Press, Pabich revealed that Azira, their 2-1/2-year-old white lioness, has been diligently nurturing and nourishing the cubs since their arrival on January 28th. Meanwhile, their father, Sahim, a 3-1/2-year-old white lion, stands guard in a neighboring enclosure, emitting protective roars at any perceived threats to his newfound family.
